Principal's Message

Welcome to Bell Avenue School, Home of the Tigers!

Bell Avenue School has an outstanding staff of classroom teachers, instructional assistants and support staff who are well-trained and dedicated to their profession. We are committed to excellence in our students’ education and social development as citizens.

During these unprecedented times, the Bell Avenue staff is working hard to ensure that the students continue to learn and grow while they are learning from home during distance learning.  We are looking forward to seeing all of the students back on campus when it is safe for everyone to return.

Bell has a variety of activities to build school spirit as well as academic accomplishments. Some of our traditional activities include: assemblies for music, art and dramatics; an art club, student council and Tiger Teammates. We have a variety of spirit days and celebrations planned by both our student council and our Bell Avenue Parent Group. Our students have an opportunity to attend a variety of field trips including the 5th grade Starbase experience and the 6th grade five day/four night outdoor educational experience in the Mendocino Woodlands.

Our district works to ensure that students are working toward meeting the Common Core Standards for their grade level. The standards call for much more “eyes on text” time, more complex text in both fictional and informational text, and a big focus on fluid writing which asks students to critically analyze literature and support their claims with evidence. In mathematics, students are asked to not just generate answers, but to explain their thinking process. Students have to attend to precision, and speak with the language of mathematics. The Common Core Standards are geared toward real-world skills and applications that our kids need to be competitive in our fast changing world. We need students to be problem solvers who can persevere through challenging tasks. The best thing you can do to support your children all year long is provide them with structured study time and challenging/engaging recreational reading material.
